Pros & Cons

  • Lots of opportunities for growth.
  • Exposure and guidance from experienced people
  • Very good socially, lots of other young professionals in the office.
  • Flexi-time and being able to bank hours when you complete over time to use for future leave. Exposure to a wide range of opportunities is also a huge bonus

  • Good Job diversity and getting to work on large scale projects.
  • Predominantly desk based thus far.
  • Assuming all employees of the same level can do the same work
  • Promotion into senior roles can be harder once you graduate from the program as you may still be seen as the young engineer you once were
  • As a consultancy, minimising overheads is the goal.
  • Big companies can sometimes have a lot of red tape with certain processes. Takes a little while to get to know who to work through it with

Socialising amongst colleagues is very good. Lots of social events and genuine people. Teamwork is great and most people are there to help you. Hierarchy is important but everyone is approachable.

As a graduate, I work under the supervision of more senior engineers to produce many deliverables of detailed design e.g. calculations, drawings, datasheets, technical reports and operating procedures. I participate in several formal assessments such as HAZOPs, HAZIDs and design reviews as a scribe.

Managers are very accessible as our office is completely open plan. They make good mentors and are always looking out for the best in me.
