The IAG Story

Working at IAG is more than just a job. It's a passion, and it's why we are more than just insurance.

We deliver on our purpose in everything we do, and live our culture: embracing diversity, inclusion and belonging, always. We're looking for people that share our passion, who can bring new and diverse thinking and experiences to designing deep customer experiences for today – and tomorrow.

IAG is the parent company of a general insurance group with controlled operations in Australia and New Zealand. Our businesses underwrite over $12 billion of premium per annum, selling insurance under many leading brands, including: NRMA Insurance, CGU, SGIO, SGIC, Swann Insurance, WFI and Poncho Insurance (Australia); and NZI, State, AMI and Lumley (New Zealand).

OUR PURPOSE AND STRATEGY

IAG's purpose means that whether you are a customer, partner, employee, shareholder or part of the communities IAG serves, IAG exists to 'make your world a safer place'. IAG believes its purpose will enable it to become a more sustainable business over the long term and deliver stronger and more consistent returns for its shareholders.
Helping customers manage risk has been IAG's business for over 160 years, forming the heart of IAG's Purpose, to make your world a safer place.

COVID-19 materially disrupted local and global markets and the lives of customers in 2020. In these uncertain times, IAG's Purpose is more important than ever and guides IAG's ambition to serve every Australian and New Zealander. Achieving this ambition requires being Purpose-led, customer focused and commercially disciplined.

Through IAG's investment in customer experience, simplification and agility over the last five years, it is well positioned for the future. IAG's trusted brands, supply chain scale, deep data assets and financial strength are key attributes, providing competitive advantage.

IAG's long-term objective remains: the delivery of top quartile Total Shareholder Return, with a sustainable growth profile. To realise this, IAG has reset its strategy to 'create a stronger, more resilient IAG'. IAG is driving focus, adapting its business model and playing to its strengths to capitalise on trends shaping the operating environment.

OUR PARTNERS AND COMMUNITY

IAG is in the business of making your world a safer place. This is our purpose, and it underpins everything we do.

We all want to live in safe communities.

Safer communities are more connected, confident, and resilient. This results in better outcomes for the community, and it also means fewer claims and lower costs for our business.

As a leading insurance company, IAG recognises that our role extends beyond insuring risk and paying claims. Our purpose drives us to work collaboratively with the community to understand, reduce and avoid risk, and to build resilience and preparedness. This is good for IAG, our region and our world.

Building resilience takes time, but by working together to help people prepare for and bounce back from unexpected events IAG is creating safer communities and making our business stronger.

How are we building resilience?

Partnering with the community to improve safety is not a new concept for IAG. In many ways, we have been doing it since we began operating, more than 185 years ago. By embracing new technologies and cross-sector initiatives we are taking our partnership approach to a new level, building scale and maximising impacts in the community and for our business.

We know that issues like community connectedness and resilience, climate change, and safety at home, work and on the road present difficult challenges. And while we don't have all the answers, we do have the resources, capabilities and the will to partner with others to create solutions.

The initiatives and partnerships we engage in are guided by our Safer Communities framework, which focuses on creating safer, stronger and more confident communities. Our decision-making is also guided by a shared value approach. Some of the ways through which IAG is building safer, more resilient, communities, are:

  • Locally, connecting individuals and their communities through the Good 'Hoods initiative, such as exploring ways to improve community connection and resilience, in partnership with two Good 'Hoods Incubators in Murrindindi and Blacktown
  • In New Zealand, identifying, championing and advocating for ways to help the nation become more resilient to natural disasters through the Resilient New Zealand working group
  • In Australia, working to build a more resilient nation by influencing public policy via evidence-based reporting on the cost of disasters on life, property and the economy through the Australian Business Roundtable for Disaster Resilience & Safer Communities
  • Internationally, through our engagement with the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), and as a founding signatory the UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI), we hosted the 'Financing a Resilient & Sustainable Economy' conference alongside NAB. The conference connected corporates, regulators, sponsors, consumer groups, academia and all levels of Government across Australia and New Zealand to create a long-term plan to reduce the impact of climate change, build resilience, and create a more sustainable economy in line with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
