As a Graduate Software Engineer I am shaping the future by

Working on leading-edge technology that contributes to the safe, efficient and profitable operation of critical industrial processes in numerous industries, including oil and gas, heat treatment, pharmaceuticals and renewable energy. Describe your day to day (in 3 sentences)

When working in an agile software development environment, coding is only one aspect of the daily life of a software engineer. We need to interact with key stakeholders around the world, including customers, project engineers and User Experience designers, to ensure that we always act with the interests of our global clients in mind. That’s not to say we don’t get to have some fun with technology; our office is responsible for some of Honeywell’s leading-edge offerings, requiring us to delve into backend server work, app development and customer facing displays to simplify industrial and commercial control system management.

Describe your biggest achievement as a Grad

During my time as a graduate, I have enjoyed the responsibility of taking part in many projects, each relying on different technologies and processes. This has involved working in a team and, in some cases, as a technical lead. I’ve had the chance to communicate with teams around the world, and haven’t shied away from an opportunity to be involved in new projects or roles.

What is something you have learnt about yourself over your Grad journey

Starting any new job requires a steep-learning curve and continual process of learning. Despite initial concerns about the advanced programming skills required for a software engineer, especially in a company with multiple offerings, I have been able to draw on the experience and skills of colleagues to quickly adapt to new programming languages and technologies when needed. I have also been able to communicate with professionals in local and international teams, even in high-pressure situations.

Quote (what I like best about the Grad Program)

The culture of learning has given me the opportunity to engage in projects that challenge me on a technical and personal level and has allowed me to interact with people and processes across a global landscape.
